What is the GDIZ?
The industrial zone of Glo-Djigbé is the result of a public private partnership signed between the Republic of Benin and ARISE Integrated Industrial Platforms (IIP). These include the industrial zone in Gabon (GSEZ) and the industrial zone of Adétikope in Togo (PIA).
Located in Abomey-Calavi, about 45 km from Cotonou, the Glo-Djigbé industrial zone will cover about 1,640 hectares and is dedicated to the processing of agricultural products. This modern industrial park will be built in three phases. As far as the first phase is concerned, it covers 400 ha. It is important to mention that the construction work of this industrial pole of Benin is progressing at a fast pace. Indeed, the first phase has already been completed.
The GDIZ aims to promote the industrialization of Benin through the development of processing industries. This will undoubtedly increase the productivity of products made in Benin. Thus, several jobs will be created and the GDP as well as the volume of exports of Benin will increase. It is worth highlighting that about 32 investors have already signed their contract to reserve a space in the zone. These include the Eagle Group, which is specialized in cotton processing, and Africa Jutes Industrie, which is a specialist in the manufacture of jute bags.
GDIZ Industries
Benin’s agriculture is making more and more satisfactory progress. Indeed, thanks to the modernization of the agricultural sector, the productivity of several sectors has improved. Thus, in order to get more added value from these agricultural products, their transformation into finished products will be done in Glo-Djigbé industrial zone.
Cotton processing industries
The cotton processing industries of the Glo-Djigbé industrial park will be responsible for spinning and weaving this agricultural product. Indeed, Benin is the largest producer of cotton in Africa and ranks ninth in the world. Each year, more than 300,000 tons of this raw material is produced. Thus, GDIZ Textile Park constitutes an opportunity for the installation of textile companies in Benin. This industrial park is designed with modern production systems that are state-of-the-art and environmentally friendly. It is equipped with quality infrastructure and efficient machinery for the manufacture of garments and other products. Moreover, it has the capacity to integrate several production units.
Cashew nut processing industries
In West Africa, Benin is ranked third in cashew nut production.
